With love in the air, I want to talk abou mating tendencies in the Scarlet Macaw. The Scarlet Macaw is a species of bird that typically has a lifespan of 60 years and have lifelong partners. Not only do they mate for life, they also share food and enjoy mutual grooming with their partner.
Macaws are famously known for their beautiful vibrantly colored feathers, known as plumage. These birds claim the rainforest of South and Central America as home. The call of the Macaw is very distinct and raspy. I can best describe it as a deep-toned screech that can be heard from distances far off.
Macaws are social creatures much like humans, being that they are community oriented and have a need for connection. This is why they are commonly found in groups, known as flocks and a reason why they mate for life.
The Macaws shown here were located in the Puntarenas providence of Costa Rica. I was taken back when I first heard this creature, uncertain as to what would be making this call. Then I saw a huge streak of color painting the sky and I was taken back by the beauty. These are purely amazing animals!
